This blog is an insight into my design process and interests.

Allowing exploration of anything that may aid my journey into becoming a landscape architect.

Russell Page Villa Silvio Pellico

It is described by Fred Whitsey as “a garden that seems to look back respectfully to long-established tradition but is of its own time in the use of its materials and its self-confidence”.

Page, by his own admission, does not tend to have a “style” of gardening. However, he is very empathic to the location and the client’s desires.

Here, Page has used a pool mirrored on an axis throughout the space, with the central axis node as the main focal point between the outside rooms. I feel the central pool is very large, creating an uneasy feeling as you walk through.

The monotone colour palette creates drama, emphasising the beauty in the simplicity.
With its geometric shapes alongside the classical design, I feel this truly is a great example of a modern classical garden that could stand the test of time.
