I have been set the task to design a wind buffer for a site. I chose a high-density matrix with a 35% evergreen mix, so this should provide all-round wind protection.

A planted wind buffer is a strategically designed mix of trees, shrubs, and plants that reduces wind speed and its impact on surrounding areas. These buffers work by disrupting and redirecting airflow, decreasing wind velocity both upwind and downwind. They help protect soil from erosion, reduce energy costs by shielding buildings from harsh winds, and create microclimates for better plant growth. Additionally, they enhance biodiversity by providing habitats and food for wildlife. Wind buffers can be used in various landscapes but are vital for agricultural land, as they improve environmental resilience, promote ecosystem health, and support sustainable land management practices.
I chose a wide variety of mixed native species to also create a rich biodiverse habitat to enhance the local ecosystem.
