This blog is an insight into my design process and interests.

From Concept to CAD

Fylgoar is a project deeply rooted in Viking mythology and Gloucester’s rich history. The city’s Viking connection dates back to AD 877 when Guthrum and his forces arrived, later influencing the region under Aethelflaeda’s rule. The Vikings were known for their expertise in navigation and trade, dealing in essential goods like salt, coal, wool, and honey.

These themes form the foundation of Fylgoar’s design, which is based on a design from an axe head. this has been further developed with objects of navigation including a set square.

Once the main design is set I will overlay it with a constellation pattern taken from the time the Vikings arrived. At each star’s point, there will be a sculptural or educational feature, similar to the design of Parc de la Villette.

Additionally, the space will align with solar cycles, using vision and psychogeographic lines to connect with the solstices. These are identified in the green on the ACAD drawing.

The yellow lines are the views to Gloucester Cathedral linking with key spaces on the site.
